Dr. Jacob Dike grew up in Melbourne, FL. and spent the better part of his childhood living in the Sunshine State. While living in Tampa, FL., he attended the University of South Florida (USF) where he studied with renowned percussionist and professor Robert McCormick. At USF, he was involved in a number of chamber and large ensembles, including the McCormick Percussion Group. After USF, he moved to Cincinnati, OH., to study as a graduate student at the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) with Percussion Group Cincinnati. While at CCM, Jacob spent four years as a graduate assistant teaching music theory and percussion at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Dr. Dike has been teaching privately for the past 16 years and thoroughly enjoys working with students of all ages. He works actively as a freelance percussionist, pianist, conductor, arranger, and sound engineer. As a strong advocate for new music, he has commissioned, premiered, and recorded more than 40 works for solo and chamber ensembles. He has served as Lecturer at the University of Cincinnati (2018-20) and as Instructor of Percussion at Ohio Wesleyan University (2019-21). Dr. Dike was also a founding member of the new music percussion trio 3(r) Three by Radio, performing both at PASIC and internationally.
Dr. Dike can be heard on a number of albums available through Ablaze Records, Ravello Records, and North / South Recordings (see Media for a complete discography). He is currently a member of the Percussive Arts Society.
He holds a B.M. from USF, and both M.M. and D.M.A. from CCM.
