Jacob grew up in Melbourne, FL and spent the better part of his childhood living in the Sunshine State. While living in Tampa, FL., he attended the University of South Florida (USF) where he studied with renowned percussionist and professor Robert McCormick. At USF, he was involved in a number of chamber and large ensembles, including the McCormick Percussion Group. After USF, he moved to Cincinnati, OH., to study as a graduate student at the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) with Percussion Group Cincinnati. While at CCM, Jacob spent four years as a graduate assistant teaching music theory and percussion at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Jacob can be heard on a number of albums available through Ablaze Records, Ravello Records, and North / South Recordings (see Media for a complete discography). He is currently a member of the Percussive Arts Society.
Jacob has been teaching privately for the past 14 years and thoroughly enjoys working with students of all ages. In addition to being classically trained, he is well versed in many styles of music including jazz, musical theatre, contemporary, choral and sacred. He works actively as a freelance percussionist/conductor/pianist with CCM students, local high schools, and in various performances nationally. Jacob is an adjunct faculty with the CCM Preparatory Department and directs the Cincinnati Youth Percussion Ensemble (CYPE). Jacob is also a member of the new music percussion trio 3(r) Three by Radio, who has performed both at PASIC and internationally.
He holds a B.M. from USF, and both M.M. and D.M.A. from CCM.
